Basic Conversational Cherokee Language Course |
|
by Frank Swimmer-McLemore |
The basic course is specifically designed to acquaint those who enroll in the course to the viable spoken language of approximately 10,000 Cherokee people or as they refer to themselves as “The Real People”.
The six (6) week course (possibly a 9 week course at the same rate.) Each class being at least 3 hours in length.
The teaching methods will include videos, lectures, review of previous lessons, introduction to a new lesson, and a review of previous assignments. References to the written Cherokee Syllabary or Alphabet will be made but it will not be necessary to memorize the Syllabary. The purpose of the reference to the Syllabary is to learn the phonetics of a Cherokee word or phrase and to become acquainted with the pitch of the sound. After the first class each student will be given word(s) or a sentence written in English for them to write the word(s) using the Cherokee phonetics. This routine will be conducted thereafter during the duration of the course.
